SS Keewatin Steam Ship Museum
Located in Port Mcnicoll just off highway 12 about halfway to midland (10-15min) from here is the SS Keewatin. The SS KEEWATIN is a historic passenger liner that is 5 years older than the Titanic and she was built in Scotland in 1905 for the Canadian Pacific Railroad. She was one of a fleet of five ships designed specifically to connect Eastern Canada with Western Canada by using the Great Lakes. Keewatin is truly a marvel because she has managed to survive for 105 years. She is known only by those who love her, worked on her or travelled on her as in her 60 years of carrying passengers she never lost a life! It was built 5 years before the titanic and use to run the great lake as a steamship liner. It was gone from Canada for the last 45 years and was recently located and brought back as a museum you can go for a tour on. To find it, head east on Highway 12 towards midland. Take a right on Triple Bay Rd, then another right on Talbot st. Follow Talbot until it ends. You will see the site of the SS Keewatin on the right hand side before Talbot St ends.

Whites Falls,
Highly recommended. The waterfall around the summertime is generally weak and safe, early spring and after large rain storms the waterfall can get stronger, but use your own judgment. It is perfect to play and lounge in as the water falls down the smooth stones. Most of the time there are people all over the rocks, swimming and picnicking it is a extremely popular swimming hole. Weekends can be a little crowded with a mix of young and old. During the week it should be less busy. It is a great place for a picnic and a swim. Bring water shoes or old sneakers you can get wet as without them you’re going to stub your toes.
-Take the 400 Hwy North
-Get off at exit 162, which is only 1 exit north, continue straight through the stop sign onto Whites Falls Rd.
-This road will run parallel to the highway at first, then require you to make right turn down the road a bit, which will be pointed out by signs to mark Whites Falls Road.
-Follow Whites Falls Rd. for about 3 to 5 mins until you see Pickerel Point Rd on your right, then MacDonald Rd.
-Once you see this you are very close. Soon after you will pass over a small bridge, this is the place.
-It’s very easy to pass without seeing, so keep your eyes open.
-Right after the bridge you will see an area to park on your right where you can drive in. If no parking exists here and you need to park on the road, use caution where you park as people sometimes do get ticketed for parking in a no-parking area.
The Big Chute Marine Railway,
It is about 15 minutes further, continuing east down the road from Whites Falls. Most people really enjoy this place, especially the kids. There is a small marina as
you come in to the area on the left to get ice cream. It is the only marine railway of its kind in North America. It is an impressive lock which carries the boats up a hill on a rail carriage instead of raising them by water. To learn more about the Big Chute Marine Railway you can visit:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Chute_Marine_Railway
In between the trip from Whites Fall’s to the Big Chute is a little
river that passes underneath the road. You will probably see people parked on the
side of the road. There is a really nice and safe trail to walk on, on the right that has some pretty nice views. All these together make a great half or full day of adventure.
Six Mile Lake Provincial Park,
With only 15 mins away from the cottage, a nice daytime trip to Six Mile Lake Provincial Park is recommended. Known for their three sandy beaches, calm waters for swimming, canoeing, fishing and a scenic hiking trail make this place a great place to go. It is also a great place to spot wildlife as it hosts the home to some rare species: birds (yellow-throated vireos), plants (yellow-eyed grass), insects (walking sticks), and reptiles (five-lined skinks). Take the 400 Hwy North and get off at exit 162, which is only 2 exits north, merge onto White Falls Rd and continue on Joe King Rd. instead of verging right. You will see signs to Six Mile Lake at that point.

At the stop sign coming off the exit go straight through, this is Pine St. There is a Esso gas station there on the corner where you can get suppiles and they can point you to the entrance to the trail nearby. If you keep following Pine St. down till the end you will see the entrance to the trail just before Waubaushene Beach. The best direction is West on the trail towards Midland as if you go East you will come to the Trail head pretty quickly.
